WRPS 242A Condensate Rad Monitoring

The 242-A Evaporator reduces the volume of high-level radioactive waste and is an integral part of Hanford Tank Farm operations. The 242-A Evaporator is required to operate through fiscal year 2052. The RC-1, RC-2 and RC-3 Radiation Monitoring Systems must also be functional through year 2052. The RC-1, RC-2 and RC-3 Radiation Monitoring Systems are used to monitor for the presence of radiation in the steam condensate, used raw water and process condensate, respectively, before their discharge from the 242-A Evaporator Facility.  The existing radiation monitoring equipment used in the RC-1, RC-2 and RC-3 systems is becoming obsolete and some of the components used in the systems are being phased out by the manufacturer. An equipment failure of the current hardware would result in a system shutdown as replacement parts are becoming difficult to find.  Upgrading the existing RC-1, RC-2 and RC-3 radiation monitoring systems is required to support continued evaporator operations. The equipment upgrade is analyzed and justified in RPP-RPT-51549, 242-A Evaporator RC1, RC2 and RC3 Radiation Monitoring System Upgrade Evaluation.
